Seat 41C – on the way to London

05.29.2007 · Posted in Spain, Travel

I am writing these and typing them up when I have the chance, which is why a few entries at a time.

May 26, 2007

9.5 hours sitting straight up, trying to figure out if there is any way to be comfortable at all. But alas! Of all the seats I could have picked out, my luck really freakin’ sucks. On top of that, no new camera. Maybe it is a foreshadowing of what’s to come on the trip, but my overexcitement seems to have me seeing otherwise. Yeah, that must be it.

20 minutes or so to LHW. Then a quick sprint over to our departure gate. We will have 30 more minutes than expected to make the transfer, so hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Aside from not being able to really sleep, flight’s been good. I have a very nice older couple sitting next t ome. Surprisingly, I have not been antisocial. They’re going to Italy for a month where they’ve bought a house. Kinda crazy. They are from San Francisco, but live in the Marin, so I guess it makes sense. Didn’t ask for details, but I am picturing an Italian villa!

Wonder if I will get any sleep on the next flight.

Appetizer: Name a sound you WOULD like to hear.

The sound of the UPS truck rolling up. The sound of my dog barking as the UPS guy comes running up the stairs. The doorbell. The ripping of the packaging as I tear open my box. The sound of the camera taking a photo. Yeah, not likely.

Soup: What is your favorite kind of cheese?

I like string cheese, which I am guessing is mozzarella? Blue cheese and brie! Not really FAVORITES, but the only ones I’ll bother to ask for.

Salad: Do you sleep late on Saturday mornings? Why or why not?

Depends on if I have anything to do. Last weekend, I had my exam to take, so I slept in as much as I could before rolling out of bed to drive to lunch first, and then went on to take my exam.

Main Course: When was the last time you forgot something? What was it, and how long did it take to remember it?

Oh, I’m forgetful. I just hope I don’t leave anything too important from the packing of my bags.

Dessert: Fill in the blank: I notice ____________ when _____________.

I notice _______ when _________. Yeah, I’m full of blanks for now.

Rain in Spain

05.22.2007 · Posted in Rant, Spain

Bummer. Not only will my camera not arrive in time for the trip, but it will also be raining in Spain. Checked the tracking on my package, and it is to arrive MUCH too late. I don’t even know how I will pick it up!? One thing I am annoyed with is that the place I got the camera from could have told me that they were using that type of shipping. They KNEW I was in a rush to get the package. After all, I had left a note with the purchase. But, NO. Freakin’ eh.

I guess the good thing about rain in Spain, aside from the inevitable humming of a certain My Fair Lady song, is that it will cool down the weather a bit. Won’t be scorching, like 90s, but it will be 60s through 80s. Hoorah.

That’s as exciting a post as I can write for now. I’m still a bit depressed over the whole camera thing. At least we only have a few more days to go. Plus, tomorrow I will get to partake in a Shecky’s event – shopping and free booze, a deadly combination.

Camera

New camera was purchased. Many of you insisted that there was no fuzzy circle on the lens that showed up on the photos. Here’s some evidence:

You’ll notice it in the clouds in the first photo, and then in the second, it’s more obvious than that… So yeah, hopefully the new camera gets here in time. It’s a Canon SD800 to replace my SD400. The SD400 was really my parents’ anyway. :p I’ve just been hogging it this whole time!

Appetizer: List 3 emotions you experienced this week.

Sad because of how things are going. I feel horrible for what I’ve done, but at the same time, it was time. Frantic because I have an exam tomorrow. Lots of studying. Calm once he called me. I think we can be friends. I was worried. And that’s only to name a few – I’m a freakin’ roller coaster.

Soup: Name a car you’d love to have.

I used to want a Mini Cooper, but they’re a bit too tiny for a tall gal like myself. When I was young, my dream car was some sort of sedan. I wanted a 4-door car that would have enough leg room to get me and the family around. Now, I don’t really know…

Salad: Describe your typical morning routine.

Snooze. Snooze. Snooze. Wake up. Wash face. Brush teeth. Brush hair one way or another, only to realize it’s just going to be crappy anyway. Throw on some clean clothes. Run out the door.

Main Course: Have you ever emailed someone famous? If so, who, and what did you say to them? Did they reply?

Nope. Wow, that was an easy question.

Dessert: Do you listen to podcasts? If so, which ones?

No, I don’t. That’s too many things to keep updated on. I mean, I’ll listen to some if I happen upon them, but I don’t follow any regularly.

One more week, and I’ll be sitting on that plane heading east. Funny how something I have been planning since January is now here, and I am still not ready. Procrastinated quite a bit, and I’ve not figured out what clothes to bring nor have I picked up that new camera to go along with the trip. Oh well…

Checked the weather for at least the next week, and looks like Spain’s weather will be in the 70s and up to the 90s in the south. So yes, t-shirt, tank tops, shorts, and skirts weather! Our plan is to bring backpacks. Hopefully they will be big enough to hold three weeks of traveling! Last minute shopping this week!

On another note, if you’re interested in getting a postcard, email me. My email’s on the upper right corner of this page.

Three years, one month, four days. Even being so far apart, he was an integral part of my life, my daily routine. I probably made the wrong decision. But if it was meant to be, it’ll come together again. Different place, different time.

I really hope we stay friends – the best of friends. Of billions and billions of people out there, I didn’t meet him, get to know him, and love him, only to have him fade away from my life.

“There can be no transformation of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotion,” wrote psychologist Carl Jung. That should be your motto in the coming week, Libra. Clear thinking and impeccable logic will not be sufficient to guide you to your next great adventure. You need the driving force of succulent emotion rising up in your solar plexus, the lush power of raw sensitivity piercing your heart. Feel as deep as you dare.

——————-

It’s not like I haven’t tried this before. The long distance would get to me, and I’d try to take a break, only to find myself calling him and holding on. He’s in Ireland at the moment (soon to return), and I will be in Spain in a little over a week. I’ll have time (20 days) to clear my mind. I already miss him, and it probably doesn’t help that he’s plastered all over my life.

Poke-tastic weekend.

05.14.2007 · Posted in Photos, Travel

Spent the weekend in Lompoc (pronounced Lahm’ poke). Got there a little after midnight on Saturday, drank most of Saturday away, and then relaxed a bit on Sunday before driving back up. We ended up going to two tasting rooms and two wineries. While the tastings were deceiving in size (an ounce here and there), we did manage to get a LOT of wine into our systems!

I sorta went all paparazzi on my friends. See the rest of the photos here. It was a blast, and now I miss my LA friends more! Told the sister that this little weekend trip was my way of easing her into the Spain trip to come. We’ll probably want to pull each other’s hair out by the time the 20 days are over!

Appetizer: Tell about a time when you had to be brave.

I think that anytime that I have to go in to see a doctor of any kind, I’m being brave. Used to be so afraid of needles – I’d want to run out of the office!

Soup: Which upcoming movie are you excited about seeing?

I’m excited to see Shrek the Third because I just LOVE that series! Pirates of the Caribbean also – just want to finally get to the end of it.

Salad: Name an item you try to always have on hand.

Nowadays, my sunglasses. Got to keep these lovely light browns under protection from the harmful UV rays!

Main Course: Imagine the most relaxing room you can think of. Now describe it!

The most relaxing one I can think of is one without walls…

Dessert: On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being highest), how spiritual or religious are you?

I’m more spiritual than religious, so I’d say a 7…

DORK goggles

05.10.2007 · Posted in LASIK, Photos

The doctor ordered ten days of dork goggle wearage, but I might have failed. I lost my goggles around day eight. Drats. Now I can’t relive this moment…

Bummer!

My eyes are doing fine. I am actually doing a pretty good job of not RUBBING the eyes. When there’s an itch, I just caress lightly upon my eyelid, or tug gently on the edge of my eye. I’ve found alternatives to the addiction I once had. I remember that right before the surgery, I was trying to keep myself from rubbing my eyes, but I would catch myself every few minutes… It was insanity.

Really looking forward to this weekend. I’m driving down to Lompoc to see my LA friends!
