Holey Moley.

So here I am with my new hairstyle. The main difference would be the bangs – yeah, those scraggly pieces of hair covering my forehead. Those would be them. I like it, but I guess I will have to go in every so often to get them trimmed. Maybe I should attempt it myself to save money!

And I also had a few inches taken off the rest of the hair, just to maintain a healthy head of hair. Lately, I’ve been shedding like crazy. It all comes out in the shower, so whenever I’m done, there’s a fuzzy animal at the bottom of the tub. Gross, I know!

To top my new look off, I went ahead and got some teeth removed! No, not right in front. Well, at first I thought it’d be somewhere noticeable, and so I was freakin’ out. Luckily, they had some of the back ones removed, so it’s not all that visible unless I open up wide. Still the three holes are uncomfortable since I only got the teeth taken out last night. I’ll be eating soft food for a few days!

“You know, I really like these teeth.”

“They’re nice, but you’ve got too many.”

Damn it. I was scared of the whole procedure though. It’s a little strange how in dreams of teeth falling out, they just pop right out. My teeth must be strong because it took the oral surgeon quite some time to pry them out of my mouth!

I’m one step closer to my jaw surgery! Next step – braces! I’m one step closer to becoming Uglier Betty without glasses! Oh the jokes I could tell had I not gotten LASIK done. Hehe.

Girly Girl.

I’m just not.

So I haven’t had bangs since I was a young one. And now at 25, I have them again! Hah. Afterwards, we went to Origins for a fre mini-facial. Also tried on some colors too. Purchased a little over $100 in product.

Yikes. What have I become? J/K – just trying to be a little more presentable.

Overwhelmed.

There is a lot on my “To Do” list these days. I must have been slacking off the last few weeks because how else could everything have piled up so high?

After the rearranging of my room, it is definitely a lot more manageable than before, but I still have the piles and piles of STUFF. Every so often, I tell myself that I want to simplify. But when I look around me, it feels like it will never happen. There’s laundry left to be folded, boxes to be cleared. Oh yes – I have my Spain scrapbook to organize too! Have to get to it before I forget the details…

I have an exam to continue studying for; it’s coming up in two weeks.

I’ve been wanting to get a haircut for ages. I want bangs, and I want to have my hair trimmed a bit, so that it can continue to grow into this long mess. Oh, and speaking of physical upkeep, I need to have some teeth removed for the whole braces thing. I’m going to look like I’m in high school again with all that metal.

I also have to find a tenant for my house in Portland too. ARGH!

And of course, all this is going to cost me!

Mountain Monastery

Montserrat was another day trip out of Barcelona. It was a bit more climbing than we had anticipated, so Donna was not a happy camper at the end of the day. Parts of the climbing involved these steep sides of mountains – oops. My legs AND arms were so sore after this day. At least we got some good pictures out of it.

More pictures from Montserrat: here.

Crush.

There will always be the people over whom I am crushing. I pine whenever I am reminded of them. Even after they’ve faded into the backdrop, certain qualities will spark in my mind. But these are individuals that I will not pursue. Why? I like them, don’t I?

I admire certain qualities about them, but feel that I am not really a match – their match. Without even asking them, I have already come to a conclusion:

I am not the one they are seeking.

That’s a little bit sad. I need to change my way of thinking.

Date with Dalí

08.13.2007 · Posted in Photos, Spain, Travel

Some time in early June, I went on a date with Dalí.

Okay, I lie. It wasn’t a date, and it wasn’t just the two of us. Donna and I visited the towns of Figueres and Cadaqués, where Dalí spent some of his life and where museums in his honor now remain.

[1] When we first arrived in Figueres, it wasn’t so easy finding a map of the city. We’d follow signs leading in one direction, only to have lost them somewhere along the way. So this funny little reflection is located in the center of the city, just down the hill from the Teatre-Museu Dalí (Dalí Theater and Museum).

[2] He had an odd obsession with eggs. This is part of the front of the Dalí Theater and Museum, which he actually had a hand in designing and placing his work. It is supposedly a symbol of hope and love.

[3] Dalí is actually buried within the Theater and Museum! I had no idea when I visited, but I just read some info on his Wiki page. Nifty!

[4] and [5] These two are inside the museum. So strange. You had to get in line to go up these stairs to look through a magnifying glass to see the first image. It’s supposed to be Mae West. Don’t you see her? In the second, I’m flying out of the mouth at the top of the stairs!

[6] This was taken at the top of the stairs in the Jewels of Dalí exhibit next to the Theater and Museum. The highlight of this exhibit is a jeweled heart that keeps on beating! A little creepy, and I was able to take a video of it.

[7] and [8] More eggs! These were taken in Cadaqués at Dalí’s home. This trip was a little out of the way due to the time constraint of the bus schedule. Basically, we got off the bus, ran up the hill to see the house, and then hurried back down to the bus stop. What a rush!

It was mostly a day of bus and train rides. Worth it, in my opinion, seeing as how he’s one of my favorite artists. He was such a strange man with a famous mustache and crazy eyes. One day, I wish to find a man as devoted as he was to his wife, Gala. Perhaps slightly less crazy.

Experience.

I’m looking through job listings. It isn’t because I am in search of a new job, but I am just curious about what I could possibly do out there. Is it normal to always feel so inexperienced!? I mean, I know that I am acquiring skills by working and through the training provided. I must know more than the average Joe about my line of work, but how come every time I look at job listings, I feel as if I don’t meet all the qualifications for the jobs I would even considering applying for?

It makes me wonder if I am heading along the right path/direction. If I continue to do what I am doing, will I eventually wake up and say “Oh hey, I have enough experience to go and do this now!”?

I think that tonight I will head out to the middle of nowhere to catch the Perseid meteor shower. Maybe make a couple wishes on those falling stars?

Avenue Q

08.08.2007 · Posted in Music, Pop Culture?, Theater

We went to see Avenue Q yesterday, which was opening night, because Donna found a great deal on tickets! I had no idea what to expect, except I knew that it would involve puppets. Our seats were on the lower level, several rows from the back. It didn’t seem too far away because the performers really projected their voices. It only now seems far away because one of the characters, Kate Monster, didn’t look exactly the way she does in close-up shots. From a distance, not so furry.

The show was so freakin’ hilarious though! Absolutely loved the fact that I’m just sitting there with my mouth wide open because I just cannot believe what is going on with the puppets on stage. It’s brilliantly funny AND sweet! Certainly hits a chord since I too have no idea what lies ahead in life.

It’s definitely rated R – heck, maybe more. There’s live action puppet s.e.x on stage – haha. Fantastic characters. An Asian therapist named Christmas Eve. A well-hung 23-year-old college grad with a B.A. in English with no clue. Two cuddly bears who encourage you to spend your life-savings on a case of beer. A big furry monster who never leaves his house because of p-0-r-n on the internet. Lucy the Slut. Nicky and Rod who are based on Ernie and Bert! Kate Monster. Brian. Gary Coleman. Yes, Gary Coleman. Everyone stays in character [even when they are multiples], so awesome.

Could it get any better? No wonder it’s a 2004 Tony winner. Thinking about the songs makes me giggle a little inside. Here are just a few: What Do You Do with a BA in English?, It Sucks to Be Me, If You Were Gay, Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist, The Internet is for P-0-r-n, You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want (When You’re Makin’ Love).

The show runs till September 2nd in San Francisco. Then it’s in LA!

Harry Potter

08.07.2007 · Posted in Movies

We finally went to see Harry Potter. I really liked this one! Perhaps it was because I didn’t read the book first, so I hadn’t a clue what to expect.

But anyway, then I went ahead and read Books 6 and 7. I hadn’t read any since Book 4 came out and after watching the movie, I wanted to know! Finished both in two nights.

And now I know! My favorite characters are: Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom. Major spoilers in the links if you’ve not read the books!

Weekend in WA

08.03.2007 · Posted in Music, Photos, Pop Culture?, Travel

[updated with photos]

While it cost an arm and a leg to actually fly up to Seattle, it was well worth it to spend my weekend up there. I arrived at around 9pm on Friday, went to dinner with Neil, and waited for the others (Rick and Jen) to arrive. After hanging out at a local bar for a bit, we (with the exception of Neil, who actually lives in Seattle) crashed at Rick’s brother’s house.

We intended to get up early on Saturday for the drive out to Eastern Washington, but of course, there’s always the plan vs. the actual time line. After having brunch, we headed out and several hours and a stop at Roslyn, the site where Northern Exposure was filmed, later, we finally arrived at Rick’s parents’ house. We spent the rest of the time, checking out the area. We even got to hang out at the dairy, take some photos of the cows and calves, and then have our fingers get sucked on by this one calf. Yes, a cow sucked on my fingers. Hehe. So random.

In the evening, we had a BBQ with Rick’s parents and then went out drinking/dancing at the next big town over with many of Rick and Neil’s high school friends. They were back in town for the weekend for whatever reason, and it just happened to match up with our visiting time. The next town over was still at least 20 minutes away. A very good time because of the company and not so much because of the place.

The next morning, we just hung out around the house. I helped dig up some potatoes for breakfast. By help, I mean that I watched and made sure the potatoes that Rick’s father dug up made it to the bucket. We drove back to Seattle at 2:30 and got back around 5:30. Jen was adamant about eating at a particular Thai place, so we went over there. The wait was too long, and we didn’t have much time, so we ended up ordering it to go and eating in the parking lot off of Neil’s trunk. GHETTO. It was awesome though. Super spicy, even though we only picked 2 out of 5 levels of spiciness.

The Daft Punk show was fantastic, minus the sweaty/smelly bodies all around and random people shoving. We actually ended up in a pretty good spot! Afterwards, we all hung out at a local bar and chatted the night away. Good times. And somehow I always manage to get people around me to partake in some jumping…

A lovely weekend indeed! I wrapped it all up by relaxing once I got home today and watching The Simpsons Movie in the evening. Gotta love it. And here are the rest of the Washington photos.
