Rain and Fernet.

01.27.2008 · Posted in Boys, Family

It has been raining, off and on. I’m actually loving it. The only part I might not enjoy is having one less arm to carry everything. They need to get me an umbrella that will just float over me at all times. That would be fantastic.

Despite my last entry, it appears that now MH and I are “dating,” whatever that means. It was posed to me in the most informal way: So uh, are we like dating or something now? Cuz I mean, sorta seems like it… Yeah, that’s how I remember it. Perhaps it was a bit more eloquent than that, but I was under the influence of a couple shots of Fernet. Oh well, why the heck not, right? I have my reasons for hesitation, but I will play it by ear and just see what happens. I’m not really certain what this entails. I need a handbook or something! I’m not really into the guy in the romantic sense, but heck, what better things do I have to do? Oh wait, yes… WORK. Nah, I do like the attention.

Anyway, the weekend was a relaxing one. Spent most of it with Donna. Despite living in the same house, we hadn’t seen each other in awhile or spent much time together. It was good to just hang out with the sister once again… I hate being so busy because it really cuts down on family time.

Friday’s Feast Questions: here!

Appetizer: How many times per day do you usually laugh?

As often as I can! It really depends on how I am spending my day, and who I am hanging out with. Sometimes I am even breaking a personal record with the laughing at work because of engaging colleagues. Other days, I don’t laugh at all.

Soup: What do your sunglasses look like?

Normal. Not all Paris Hilton-like at all. They are the functional type. Ever since I got my LASIK, it’s all about sunglasses that work to block out the UV rays that are harmful to the eyes!

Salad: You win a free trip to anywhere on your continent, but you have to travel by train. Where do you go?

Oh, I would travel across the country! There’s so much to see from California to the East Coast. If I had all the time in the world, I would take the most scenic route!

Main Course: Name one thing you consider a great quality about living in your town/city.

Weather is usually pretty moderate. People are usually friendly. What’s not to love about San Francisco? Sure, it’s not perfect, but I still love it.

Dessert: If the sky could be another color, what color do you think would look best?

Something that’s not too bright, something soothing. Perhaps a really light green? Or a lavender? But really, if you knew anything about science, the sky isn’t really any color.

Thank goodness for Twitter updates and a Google calendar. Without them, I wouldn’t remember what I was doing when and where. So my last real update – new car purchased after a run-in with a garbage truck. Talk about dramatic! My body is doing fine. I have been going to the chiropractor on Saturdays. Not sure if that is enough – once per week, but it is better than nothing. I still haven’t heard back from the insurance company regarding how much they will help to cover in terms of the car.

Oh, filled my first tank of gas over the weekend! It’s not a very big tank – about 9.5 gallons. Covered about 380-390 miles. WOOT.

Work has been keeping me very busy. I think I worked over 70 hours in the past week [over the course of 6 days]. Yeah, it was a rare occasion that I decided to go in on Saturday. I’m sure my back is not appreciating that one bit. Because of the overload of work, I’ve postponed my CPA classes. I really want to have the time to devote to studying for these, and now is just not the best time.

Yesterday evening, I went to see Juno for the second time. MH had never seen it before. I, of course, loved it. Again. Michael Cera is just adorable; I’m all about the slightly naive/nerdy characters. Definitely getting the DVD!

Juno MacGuff: I think I’m, like, in love with you.
Paulie Bleeker: You mean as friends?
Juno MacGuff: No, I mean, like, for real. ‘Cause you’re, like, the coolest person I’ve ever met, and you don’t even have to try, you know…
Paulie Bleeker: I try really hard, actually.

So who is MH? He’s a guy I have been hanging out with in the past month. Although after consulting with a few individuals, the “hanging out” seem very much like “dates” to them. I say “BLAH!” to the labels. I think we both enjoy each other’s company, and I don’t think anything more than friendship is developing [at least, for now]. I won’t lie and say it wouldn’t be nice if something happened, but seriously, I’d very much rather invest time in friendships right now. In other words, I’m not making the moves.

Any prior attempts at more seem to lead to heartache and frustration.

Rescued.

With a smiley face stamp on the inner side of my right wrist, I walked into the bar. Music was playing. There was dancing. Maneuvered through the crowds, looking for the group I was supposed to meet up with. No familiar faces in sight. Fantastic. I did see Irene McGee of RW Seattle though.

So instead of hobbling out of there after spending quite some time finding a decent parking spot, I messaged MH. I was embarrassed to have wandered all the way there to find myself there alone. Everyone else was in their own group. I’m not a mingler. Anyway, MH wasn’t too far away from there, so he came out and rescued me. We ended up hanging out for many hours. Time seems to fly by, and conversation with him comes naturally.

I took a nap on his couch and then headed home in the morning.

Friday’s Feast – 01/11/2008

Friday’s Feast Questions: here!

Appetizer: What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?

My middle name is my Chinese name. It’s not on my birth certificate, so it’s not official. I don’t really tell people about it, and I will certainly not disclose that information here. However, there was a time when I wanted to change my Chinese name to sound just like my first name. There was also a time when I thought that I’d want my sister’s name as my middle name.

Soup: If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?

There’s a reason I’m not a fashion designer.

Salad: What is your least favorite chore, and why?

Cleaning the toilet? I’m okay with washing dishes and doing laundry. I just never feel like doing any of that when my work day is so long, and I could be out having fun instead.

Main Course: What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life?

Scary movies about ghosts and spirits. Ghost stories. I watched The Changeling in 4th grade. That was some scary business! It was released in 1980, so they relied heavily on the picture and sound.

Dessert: Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment.

I’m in an office. I see a parking lot. I see my new car. I also see train tracks.

Saving the World.

That’s what I told the finance guy at the dealership my reason for buying a Prius. Silver Pine Mica. Thankfully, we were able to just buy a car as it was advertised. It was less than $200 over the invoice price, but of course, it’s as basic as basic goes. But it really is me trying to save the world. I don’t even get tax credits or carpool lane stickers for it!

Decided to work from home for a few hours today also. It was good because I had time to rest, go to the chiropractor and later on pick out a new car. Bad because it means I’m falling behind at work. Hopefully a few longer nights will bring me back to speed. It’s difficult to work with such a new staff person. She doesn’t quite understand how to do the work yet, even though I’ve left detailed instructions. Not her fault. She’s new. More work for me!

My dad rocks. When he went to the shop to grab things from my Matrix, he grabbed the Toyota emblem that had fallen off the front! At least I still have a piece of my baby… Really wish I could see it one more time to grab an antenna or something.

A visit to the chiropractor confirmed that no bones are broken. Just a lot of muscle tension, which he worked on. I have another visit on Saturday. Hooray for returning back to normal!

Bye Bye Birdie.

Sunset Scavenger Garbage Truck – 1. Toyota Corolla Matrix – 0.

I really liked my car. Now I have to go car shopping. It’s pretty much NOT going to run… At least:

- I’m alive.
- Not seriously hurt [To clarify, nothing appears broken. Neck/back/shoulders ache. Probably muscle-related and will suck for days.]
- Nobody else hurt.
- No other cars damaged.
- Garbage trucks are effin’ sturdy.
- I have car and health insurance.
- I have a rental car to drive around.
- SFFD and SFFD EMTs = HOT.

Sadly, now my perfect driving record is no longer. How the heck am I supposed to run now? Hopefully nothing major going on in the body. Happy 2008. By the way, Uno the betta fish, is dead. I think the UV rays from the humidifier did him in.

Weak Sauce!

I decided not to venture outdoors for running and went to the gym instead. What a different environment! I brought music just in case I got too bored running to nowhere. Listened to some radio, tried to read some television. Went about 1.5 miles before I felt faint… so I hopped off the treadmill, grabbed some water, and rowed 1,300 meters on the Erg instead.

I r weak!

No excuse!

As my luck would have it, the first week that would actually count for running in 2008 is horribly stormy and rainy. Well, today it was off and on, so one really couldn’t tell. Instead of going to the gym as I had hoped to, I went to the mall. HAH! I didn’t only make frivolous purchases of NAP pillows and clothing [only one shirt!]. Finally got the humidifier that I need. No more nosebleeds!

The plan is to run tomorrow. I know it will rain, so I will just have to suck it up and go to the gym. Then, off to an all-I-can-eat brunch with champagne + orange juice [so going to make mimosas!] and oysters too! It will, unfortunately, be in San Jose and isn’t the cheapest brunch, but I will have a ride and will make the most of the good company and good food.

I’ve started reading Murakami‘s Dance Dance Dance. It doesn’t suck me in as some other books have, but there is still something about his writing [or the translation of his writing]. I’m putting sticky tabs on pages like I have done with other books. The lines are somewhat ordinary, but something about them compels me to want to remember or take note. I’ll have to reread those pages later and take notes. The book is borrowed, so I can’t just keep my sticky tabs in there.
