Saw your post on mybloglog... welcome to the climbergirl club. I started out really carefully so did get sore but didn't get excruciatingly sore... I dragged one of my girlfriends to the gym with me for her first time and she climbed hard... then the next day I literally had to carry her files around in court, and she couldn't even hold a pencil she was so sore. It definitely is a different kind of activity... but my advice would be to start out slowly, let your tendons get used to the idea since they develop more slowly than your muscles, and just have fun. I've been climbing about three and a half years now, and it has, quite literally, changed my life. I envy people who can climb on occasion without "becoming rock climbers..." whether you become an addict or an occasional, climbing is good fun, good exercise, and you definitely learn a lot about yourself.

yeah, rock climbing is like that. You just end up using muscles you never knew were there.

And yeah, tall girls have it good, especially if you can do the splits and such. Did you ever meet Masaki? That tall, skinny guy, he is the best rock climber I know, and it is all from natural born skill. He pulled off this one stunt where he was climbing one wall with his legs, and another wall with his arms, and they were really far apart... it was really amazing. He also does that "jump with arms" stuff where he just launches himself upward with his arms only and then grabs something before he starts to come down again...

So what I'm trying to say, most of us average folks just are happy pulling off the occasional crux (ow), but no matter what, it is hella fun. XD

AND, Joshua Tree is rock climbing heaven (unless you are really crazy, then Yosemite is ><;) If you ever end up going to Joshua Tree, I want to come too XD

1. Are you clinging to the wall, aka holding yourself close... or are you letting your arms fully extend and rest... when you are not moving? You will be sore until you get a climbing back, regardless, but this will help.

2. Being a tall climber makes all the short climbers jealous.
