Eating Alone

There is a book out there about how one should never dine alone. I will probably buy/borrow it some time and read it. For me, I think eating alone is actually more of a challenge, especially if it involves eating out at a restaurant [fancier ones, at least]. Sure, it’s difficult to eat out with company and make the most of it from the networking standpoint. In this culture, however, eating out alone is not exactly seen as normal to do that. If anything, you buy something and eat it at home.

I have to work on a little bit of both. Tonight, I’m eating with random strangers at a Senegalese place. Exciting.

Wow. I kinda completely disagree (not with you, but with the book). Rarely do I enjoy a meal more than when I'm dining out alone. The true way to enjoy a meal is to completely immerse yourself in it and to personalize it, without all the social distractions. Preoccupation with social dining as the norm is a purely American mindset. I'm really curious about the book now. Thanks for the post.

I prefer to eat with other people, but I've dined alone on many occasion business or non-business. I always meet the MOST interesting people (I am more bold ) when alone.

I think it's more eating OUT alone, rather than eating alone at home. ;)

Hmm personally I've never seen anything wrong with eating alone. I suppose you could also put it with the "don't drink alone" saying but eating alone?

I think the biggest challenge of eating alone is that most recipes and meals are meant to be eaten by at least 2 people. That's the tough part is cooking for myself and not having leftovers.

Right now, i'm eating alone since Meesh is away on business, but luckily this doesn't happen to often.
