Blogging the Unsuspecting II
Bes asked a very good question: Do you feel you are writing or expressing less because of more offline people reading your site?
Yes and no.
No is the short answer. It depends on the nature of the post, and most of mine are about my daily activities, nothing too exciting. It keeps people in the loop. I show off some of my photos and share interesting websites too. My most prolific commenters are friends that I don’t see very often.
Yes. I do tend to write less or speak in tongues. I am human, and I get upset over things – often things that other people do. I’m more careful about using this as a place to vent those frustrations about specific situations, knowing that someone I know will read it and take it the wrong way. Often times, I think about blogging as a form of venting, but I realize that the feelings dissipate with time. I get over things, and if the readers are unaware of this, they might take it personally or see it as a form of passive aggressiveness when really, it’s no different from keeping a diary and being upset or frustrated to oneself. I’m not putting it here, so you can click over and read it and think it’s about you. I’m just venting where I feel most comfortable expressing my frustrations, allowing people I know and don’t know to comment if they want to.
Writing less means that I vent in other ways, such as just straight out whining to other people… I’m certain the ones I vent to could use a little vacation from me, so I’ll stick to speaking in code here.
If it gets too bad, I have the option to password-protect entries…
