Update on the 101

03.15.2009 · Posted in 101 in 1001, Dream Notes

An update on the 101 in 1001: In other words, I’ve been slacking off like a madwoman on these.

034 – Buy a sewing machine, and sew something.
Rather than jump in on the purchase of a new sewing machine, I’m borrowing RV’s mom’s sewing machine for as long as she forgets that I’ve borrowed it. It was sitting in her closet not being used, so she was more than okay with lending it to me for a short while. It came with an instructional CD, so I’ll take a look at that when I get the chance. For now, the machine just sits on my dresser, staring at me and waiting for me to make a move towards the instructional CD.

073 – Reorganize the bathroom – new shelving, nothing on the floor!
It’s not completely clean, but there IS new shelving, AND there is not MUCH on the floor. The reorganization will probably not happen since the space is small, and there really isn’t a whole lot I can do to change where everything is. I’ll keep updating if that changes, or at least I’ll document the new shelving and the cleanliness of the floor on camera when it’s acceptable.

075 – Get rid of and replace the hideous bookshelf in my room.
I have successfully completed this task! In fact, in the place of the hideous bookshelf, I now have an Ikea dresser. RV wants me to get a TV for the top of it because right now, I have it strategically placed across from the little couch I have in the room. The desktop is a Media Center PC, so I should really take advantage of that and get a nicer face for it.

077 – Keep a dream journal to improve on lucid dreaming.
I am having trouble with this one. Sometimes I wake up and try to recall the dream to tell RV, but my memory’s been poor. :/ I will have to look up ways to improve the memory of dreams.

Sackworld

Recently, I learned of the game Little Big Planet. Yes, I realize the game’s been out for awhile, and there was a lot of talk already… It was presented at last year’s E3 also – WHATEVER. I have never played the game nor have I seen it in action outside of the screen shots and videos online. I don’t have a PS3, but if I did get one, I’d try out the game. So cute!

Little Big Planet Generator – Just a little taste of customizing your own sack person. There are MANNNNYYY more options on the actual game since you can download more, and the whole idea is that everyone’s always creating.

Make a Sack Boy – Okay, this site scared me when I first clicked on it. The costume doesn’t really look like the cute version in the game (okay, at all!), but I guess someone’s gotta try.

There was a PDF online with the knitting pattern, but I am unable to locate the actual file. (found it! here – takes awhile to load!) *sad* RV and I want to make our own Sack People. Yes, we might actually learn to knit for that very reason. *lol*

How much are you worth?

03.09.2009 · Posted in Rant, Work

In perusing job listings on Craigslist [just to see what's out there], the following thought crosses my mind:

How much are my time, experience, and skills really worth?

It baffles me when the postings list x, y, and z skills, but when they include the compensation they are going to pay, they’re basically expecting candidates to work for free. Even $10-$15 per hour in this city is not enough. Seriously, if you want x, y, and z skills, the person would have put in time and money to acquire the skills and certifications.

I understand that the job listings are really a company’s wish list, but still – baffling. You can’t get something for nothing, or can you?

From Rob Brezny:
Cartoonist Gary Larson defines luposlipaphobia as the fear of being pursued by timber wolves around a kitchen table while wearing socks on a newly-waxed floor. According to my reading of the astrological omens, there is a real danger you could fall victim to that deluded phobia. And it is definitely a delusion. No timber wolves will be in your immediate future. If you hope to avoid this mistaken anxiety, as well as other equally irrelevant and unproductive superstitions, you should have a nice long talk with yourself as soon as you finish reading this. Be very clear and strict and rational as you explain how important it is to be very clear and strict and rational right now.

Clear. Strict. Rational. Right.

iPhone Game: Crazy Penguin Catapult

03.03.2009 · Posted in Reviews, iPhone

Originally, I downloaded the Lite version of the Crazy Penguin Catapult game from Digital Chocolate just to have something to play around with. After beating it, I deleted the app and moved on with my life. But then not too long ago, I re-downloaded the game. Catapulting penguins at polar bears was back in my life.

RV caught the penguin-catapulting bug and ended up downloading the paid version for $4.99. There are many complaints that the $4.99 version is too short, and I’ll have to agree. For such a short game that can be beaten in a few hours, $4.99 is hefty. However, it has actually provided RV and me quite a few hours of entertainment. Yeah, we’ve beaten the game several times, but the silly power-ups have kept us coming back. Gotta love the Rubber and Super Bounce Penguins, Ninja and Double Ninja Penguins, Ice Breakers, Twins and Triplets…

CUTE, right? Oh, casual games. They’re the next big money maker…

Side note: The rain boots didn’t make it again. One more try by the delivery guys before I can call them to arrange a pick-up or something.

Foiled!

The rain boots I ordered last week made an attempt to arrive at my house today. Unfortunately, there was nobody around to sign for them. I hope they try again later today, or perhaps someone will be around tomorrow at the time of delivery?
