Wunder What?!

Last night, we had a few friends over for dinner. Between just the six of us, we went through two pounds of Alaskan halibut [that's a LOT of fish!], a slab of yellowtail, pasta salad, a little bit of seaweed salad, a large bottle of hot sake, and five bottles of wine.

RV’s mother’s friend caught the halibut up in the icy cold waters of Alaska this summer, and several vacuum-sealed pounds magically ended up in our freezer! LUCKY US! It was sashimi grade, so of course, we sliced it up as so and put out the soy sauce and wasabi [not a fan, but others LOVE it, so I had to go and buy it!].

Picture stolen right off the sister’s Facebook page. I was too busy eating and not taking any photos of the evening. That’s yellowtail [hamachi] on the left and halibut [ohyo or sometimes hirame meaning "flat fish" in restaurants] on the right. So tasty!

Since we’re such classy individuals, this video came up in our dinner conversation, and we were, of course, thoroughly entertained:

There was also mention of the ShakeWeight commercial… Oh, Infomercials.

Mid-week Update

Whoa, it’s already the end of April. The photos in this entry were taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium (jellyfish to the right and river otter to the left). Went there with a large group last weekend. FUN!

Tomorrow is my LASIK surgery. A little bit scary – they’re going to be messing with my eyes! It will be pricey, but totally worth it. Just yesterday morning, I was hunting around for my glasses. I can pretty much see without them, but they do help my reading of signs and recognizing of faces at a distance. I never leave them in the same place each night, so every morning, I test out that deteriorating memory of mine. Where did I leave them this time!? That will soon end! WOO!

Jury duty lasted until yesterday. We were selected on Wednesday, heard the witnesses through Friday, and then deliberated for a day and a half. I thought it’d go by much quicker, but there were a few straggling votes. There needed to be a unanimous vote. I was a little surprised that we actually reached one because the stragglers were strongly set on their judgment. There were one or two who really got the ball moving and moderated the discussions, so in that sense, we were very lucky. Plus, the judge was SUPER nice. She even brought us cookies on the last day.

Of course, I just had to be called up in the first group of jurors from the jury waiting room, and then in the first group of jurors to be questioned by lawyers… And then I was selected! I’ve avoided serving jury duty for quite some time, moving from school to home to school again, then going out of the country. I guess it was about time. Overall, a neat experience.

In television news, Asia is the next Pussycat Doll. Pfft. Disappointing. Stefanie is the next Apprentice. Hoorah. I was rooting for her.

Allergic to my own room…

I’ve been sneezy all this time that I have been at home. It has to be all the dust in this room that is driving my nose up the wall. While it is great to be sleeping in my own bed, it would be nice not to wake up with a stuffed up nose.

I have jury duty tomorrow! I have been calling for the last few days, and finally my group number has been summoned. Not sure what to expect, but I will just go in there and see what happens. I will probably bring a book to read or some study materials.

On a side note, HOORAH for Melissa S. being kicked off that Pussycat Dolls show. She was really annoying me with her attitude problem. All the hating she was doing on Chelsea was definitely grating on my nerves. I’m just glad she got the boot before Chelsea did. Now I’m not expecting her to win since the two other girls are extremely talented, but watching the previews, it looks like there will be major drama between those two during the week. It is still hard to say who will win.

Another note, all four contestants remaining on the Apprentice were on Team Arrow. I had been rooting for them all along, but now it’s down to the final four. Mr. Trump has to make a choice! It’s hard to tell who is going to win.

My Shows

My goodness, I’m turning into one of those television-obsessed! I have shows, and let me tell you – I get so into them! And it’s really weird at work right now because everyone is so busy, and nobody has time for television. There’s nobody to rave on and on about them, except for my sister!

So let’s start with Monday night… One word – Heroes. *insert obsessed fan girl scream* I just LOVE this show. Unbelievable even to myself because when I saw the billboards up for this show at the bus stops, I thought to myself Ugh, not another one of these show! Of course, then I watched it, and now I am HOOKED. I guess that’s the same for all the other shows I’m watching… Each Heroes character’s story is so complex because the writers all write continuously, and then these stories are intertwined to form the episodes. We’re taking a break until after March Madness though. I need a break from all this television.

Tuesday night brings us to The Search of the Next Pussycat Doll. *rowr* Okay, what a way to start the show. On the first episode, a bunch of the girls got sick and were puking on national television! Ewww. But still, some of them did so amazingly. Not only do I not sing, but there is no way I can get myself coordinated enough to perform any of those moves! So I am really rooting for Chelsea, who has an AMAZING voice, but isn’t much of a dancer. She really showed the girls she was teamed up with this week, who spent the earlier part of the week practicing with each other and only standing on the sidelines making fun of her. When crunch time came, she blew the judges away, while they were not exactly impressed with the other two girls. She said it too. Karma’s a bitch! I’m also rooting for some of the other girls, so if in the end, one of my picks gets it, that’ll be enough for me. I read their profiles online, and all of them are singers/actresses/dancers, so really – an average girl probably would have been cut early on.

Wednesday would be America’s Next Top Model. I have a feeling that once I don’t get home early enough to watch it, I’ll avoid it altogether. I don’t have favorites on this show, mostly individuals that I’d like to see go home. It’s another dose of drama during the week. It definitely doesn’t get me as excited as when Beauty and the Geek was on the air. I’m really wanting Renee to go home because she’s such a two-faced biatch on the show! On one side, she’s playing the “I’m a recent mother” card, and then the other hand, she’s extremely mean about the other girls. She has a drama-inducing jealous streak about her.

Thursdays are my double dose. Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy. Both appear to be on hiatus at the moment. I’m only finding older episodes, so boohoo. For once, I’m making an effort to follow the season, and they have to go and take a break on me!? Ugly Betty is definitely cheesy comedy, but it leaves you feeling good at the end of the show. I’m going to be getting braces soon, so I think I’ll be relating to Betty even more as the show goes on.

I do take a little break for Friday and Saturday. Nothing’s on that I follow religiously. Sometimes those are my catch-up nights when I miss my shows during the week. I catch up, so that I’m ready for the next week! But on Sunday, I’m back at it again. The Apprentice. It’s in LA this season, so it’s neat to see what sort of challenges they’re given. It’s hard to tell what will happen!

There are still several popular shows that I haven’t gotten into, and really – the ones I’m already obsessing over are way more than one can handle! It’s good to get this out of my system…

Okay, life can go on.
