Friday’s Feast – 12/7/2007

12.07.2007 · Posted in Meme

My poor excuse of an entry today – WOO! Friday’s Feast questions: here!

Appetizer: What was the last game you purchased?

I don’t really buy games. If anything at all, it would probably be some discounted board game from Barnes and Noble or something.

Soup: Name something in which you don’t believe.

I try not to be a pessimist, so I am always hopeful. I don’t believe in closing one’s mind completely to new ideas.

Salad: If you could choose a celebrity to be your boss, who would you pick?

Someone not bratty or snotty. :) I don’t know who that would be. I’m sure there’s a list out there of ideal employers. But really – who wouldn’t want to work for themselves?

Main Course: What was a lesson you had to learn the hard way?

Things don’t always work out, even if you put the time and effort into them. It’s a sad truth, but you can only move ahead and take what you’ve learned and apply it for future reference. At least it’s a lesson learned and not a repeated mistake – possibly.

Dessert: Describe your idea of the perfect relaxation room.

Soothing music. Not too hot. Not too cold. Pillows. A massage chair or bed. An area with good lighting and a comfy place to curl up with a book.

Friday’s Feast – 11/30/2007

Haven’t done these in a little while. Here goes! Friday’s Feast questions: here!

Appetizer: What is your favorite carnival/amusement park ride?

I like the fastest roller coasters, the ones that get your blood pumping, adrenaline rushing. They might possibly flip you upside down, but that’s not even required. The best ones have cameras to take pictures of you in the moment. I spend the entire ride with a certain expression glued to my face. Try holding that while flipping in circles and moving at high speeds. It’s awesome!

Soup: How do you react in uncomfortable social situations?

I often retreat. Uncomfortable social situations confuse me, and while I want to understand them, I need to back off before I can take a look and figure it out. Sometimes I don’t realize until much later. I’m awkward.

Salad: On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy discussing deep, philosophical topics?

I do enjoy deep, philosophical topics with engaging individuals who will respect another’s opinion, rather than putting them down for not being correct. I will say “7″ for this.

Main Course: Did you get a flu shot this year? If not, do you plan to?

No flu shot this year. No plans to.

Dessert: Approximately how many hours per week do you spend watching television?

I’d say, around 2-4 hours. Not that much. That would be about the same as a show or two, sometimes even less.

7 Weird/Random Things and Thanksgiving Recap

11.27.2007 · Posted in Meme, Random, Theater

We are a little early this year on the “Weird/Random Things” meme. For the last two years, I’ve completed a version of this meme in January. It was five or six things in the past. This year, it’s seven. Do we get weirder with time, or do we just realize how weird we really are? I will try not to cheat and use any of the old ones if I can help it.

These are things on my mind, things about me…

1. Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. [Champuru]
2. Share 7 random and/or weird things about yourself. [See below!]
3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs. [I'm cheating and not tagging. If you fill this one out, just let me know!]
4. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog. [See above.]

01. I eat a lot, more than what a lot of others can eat. I don’t eat quickly. In fact, I’m quite slow. So it’s slow and steady eating. I don’t know where it goes. I know that is considered lucky, but sometimes it is annoying. I’d just like to be healthy.

02. I am absolutely guilty of being passive aggressive. I just wish I knew how to step away from that. It’s so much easier to stand back. It’s a Libran quality. How do we stay diplomatic without being passive aggressive? Can we?

03. I can’t seem to sit up straight. I should start wearing a back brace. I really do not want to be the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but at the rate I am going, it can’t be too far off. I stopped going to the chiropractor because I had to pay for braces, and that was already using up all of my Flexible Health Savings account at work.

04. When I am feeling restless, I need to do one of the following things: 1) hop on a plane, 2) get a haircut, 3) dye my hair, 4) rearrange my room. I am feeling restless these days. What am I going to do?

05. I tell myself a lot of things. Why don’t I ever listen?

06. French fries go so well with an ice cold milkshake! Ice cream on a cold day! Hot and cold. Sweet and salty. It all just seems to work.

07. While I am not high maintenance in terms of the physical, materialistic way, I’m a pretty emotionally demanding person. When I care, I need to feel cared for.

Thanksgiving weekend was good. It wasn’t too crazy.

Thursday, we [along with 17 other Yelpers] volunteered at the food bank for a few hours. We separated large bags of rice and beans into smaller 1-lb. bags. Afterwards, a smaller group of us went out for some food in the Mission. Donna and I ordered these gigantic burritos – the same thing for the both of us. Yikes. We should have shared! At night, Thanksgiving dinner at uncle’s. I ended up losing $40 over Mahjong to my uncles and aunt. No biggie. It was fun, and that’s probably the only time that I am willing to spend longer periods of time with family.

On Friday, dim sum with Mia [whom we hadn't seen in forever!], Perci, and Bella. We didn’t do much else since we ended up prepping for a Thanksgiving dinner party at Kevyn’s house. We made lemon drop Jello shots and chocolate rum mousse. Both turned out quite good, but the mousse was more work than it was worth.

Saturday, after having pho, I went with Leif to see an adaptation of two stories from Murakami’s “After the Quake” at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Even though we sat spitting distance away from the actors, I enjoyed it. The two stories were meshed into one. It was a good show in an intimate setting. In the evening, Donna and I went out to dinner and then a going-away party.

Sunday was spent on an all-day outing up in Marshall, where we chowed down on oysters, oysters, and more oysters. It was so yummy. In the evening, we went over to Kevyn’s for dinner.

Now it’s back to the grind.

Appetizer: Name a sound you WOULD like to hear.

The sound of the UPS truck rolling up. The sound of my dog barking as the UPS guy comes running up the stairs. The doorbell. The ripping of the packaging as I tear open my box. The sound of the camera taking a photo. Yeah, not likely.

Soup: What is your favorite kind of cheese?

I like string cheese, which I am guessing is mozzarella? Blue cheese and brie! Not really FAVORITES, but the only ones I’ll bother to ask for.

Salad: Do you sleep late on Saturday mornings? Why or why not?

Depends on if I have anything to do. Last weekend, I had my exam to take, so I slept in as much as I could before rolling out of bed to drive to lunch first, and then went on to take my exam.

Main Course: When was the last time you forgot something? What was it, and how long did it take to remember it?

Oh, I’m forgetful. I just hope I don’t leave anything too important from the packing of my bags.

Dessert: Fill in the blank: I notice ____________ when _____________.

I notice _______ when _________. Yeah, I’m full of blanks for now.

Appetizer: List 3 emotions you experienced this week.

Sad because of how things are going. I feel horrible for what I’ve done, but at the same time, it was time. Frantic because I have an exam tomorrow. Lots of studying. Calm once he called me. I think we can be friends. I was worried. And that’s only to name a few – I’m a freakin’ roller coaster.

Soup: Name a car you’d love to have.

I used to want a Mini Cooper, but they’re a bit too tiny for a tall gal like myself. When I was young, my dream car was some sort of sedan. I wanted a 4-door car that would have enough leg room to get me and the family around. Now, I don’t really know…

Salad: Describe your typical morning routine.

Snooze. Snooze. Snooze. Wake up. Wash face. Brush teeth. Brush hair one way or another, only to realize it’s just going to be crappy anyway. Throw on some clean clothes. Run out the door.

Main Course: Have you ever emailed someone famous? If so, who, and what did you say to them? Did they reply?

Nope. Wow, that was an easy question.

Dessert: Do you listen to podcasts? If so, which ones?

No, I don’t. That’s too many things to keep updated on. I mean, I’ll listen to some if I happen upon them, but I don’t follow any regularly.

Appetizer: Tell about a time when you had to be brave.

I think that anytime that I have to go in to see a doctor of any kind, I’m being brave. Used to be so afraid of needles – I’d want to run out of the office!

Soup: Which upcoming movie are you excited about seeing?

I’m excited to see Shrek the Third because I just LOVE that series! Pirates of the Caribbean also – just want to finally get to the end of it.

Salad: Name an item you try to always have on hand.

Nowadays, my sunglasses. Got to keep these lovely light browns under protection from the harmful UV rays!

Main Course: Imagine the most relaxing room you can think of. Now describe it!

The most relaxing one I can think of is one without walls…

Dessert: On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being highest), how spiritual or religious are you?

I’m more spiritual than religious, so I’d say a 7…

Appetizer: Name something you would not want to own.

Granny panties! Sorry that was the first thing to come to mind.

Soup: Describe your hair (texture, color, length, etc.).

Mostly black, hints of brown when in the sun. Not particularly thick or thin, although it seems like I have a whole lot of it. I shed and shed, and yet I am nowhere near bald. THANK GOODNESS. It is now down past my shoulders, and I’d like to cut it some day and maybe get some bangs as well. My hair tends to get frizzy.

Salad: Finish this sentence: I’ll never forget ___________.

You.

Main Course: Which famous person would you like to be for one day? Why?

That’s a tough one. I might never have an answer to that one.

Dessert: Write one sentence about yourself that includes one thing that is true and another thing that is not.

I am so excited about my upcoming trip to Spain [true] alone [false]!

Appetizer: How fast can you type?

I haven’t tested myself in awhile, but I used to range in the upper 70′s, lower 80′s. It helps to have been typing since before I could even remember. My dad would sit me in front of this typewriter to practice, and boy did I hate that typewriter! It was the old school kind where the buttons are hard to press, and whenever you skip to the next line, it goes *DING*.

Soup: What is your favorite online game?

Any of the games at Orisinal. They keep me fairly entertained when bored.

Salad: On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as highest), how intelligent do you think you are?

I might not be the smartest, but darn it – I’m at least an 8. That’s an A-/B+, right?

Main Course: Name three of your best teachers from your school years.

Mrs. Brown, Ms. Dunn, and Mr. Abaya. Mrs. Brown was my 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. I was, without a doubt, a teacher’s pet in her case. Ms. Dunn taught 4th and 5th, and Mr. Abaya taught some 5th, mostly 6th. He was my favorite though. He made PE, Science, and History, if not fun, bearable.

Dessert: What are your plans for this upcoming weekend?

Nothing too crazy. A dinner on Saturday, and my flight out to Idaho on Sunday.
